Summer is fast approaching, the sun is starting to shine again… and that means sports season is about to begin! 41% of operators believe that the UEFA Euro this summer will be the most profitable sporting occasion for their venues in 2021, with as many as 89% of operators planning to show the games (MatchPint data, 2021).
MatchPint co-founder, Dom Collingwood said: “Euro represents the biggest opportunity for pubs, bars and restaurants to drive sales since Christmas 2019… nothing brings people together more than cheering on their country together, and there is no better place to do that than in the pub.”
Around six in ten sports lovers watch their favourite games at the pub, but those who watch at home are very likely to have friends over with some beers to enjoy the game instead, rather than watching it on their own. There are definitely ways that you can use this to your advantage, and make the most of the sports fans who will be visiting your venue or alternatively, wanting to order a takeaway.
Ordering and paying via the app means that customers don’t have to leave their tables and can keep an eye on the big screen, whilst placing their order. It’s never been easier and more simple for fans to order a pint, and to get it brought straight to the table.
But customers don’t benefit unless they know to use the app! So make sure staff are pushing customers to download and use it. If you’re printing POS to support the Euros, include a QR code to take users to the web-solution or App Store to download.
Efficiency improves drastically when implementing your mobile order & pay app, because staff are freed up from taking orders and are able to concentrate on preparing orders quicker. Now THAT is the key to customer satisfaction...
Lots of people will be wanting to watch sports matches at home with their friends- making takeaway or click & collect a great (and profitable) service to offer.
Mobile apps aren’t just for using in-venue; they can also cater for the at-home sports lovers who would rather use pick-up or delivery and watch the game in their living room. It’s a great way of maximising sales whilst adding convenience for your customers by reducing their wait times and giving them flexibility.
Running special offers can help to increase ATV by encouraging customers to order food alongside their drinks, which will also increase their spending period.
You could offer deals on sharing platters for customers to share before the game starts, or offer ‘meal deals’ and discounts, such as 15% off food for two hours before the game.
93% of consumers see a meal deal as a positive influencer when choosing a venue to visit (On Trade Catman Jan 2021), so get creative and think about what you can offer to draw customers in and get them spending.
With some gorgeous weather, morale is high and everyone’s looking forward to a fun summer of sport…
